The Mini London Marathon, held annually around St James’s Park, is a prestigious event that attracts young athletes from across the UK. The race offers participants the opportunity to experience the thrill of competitive running on a world-class stage. The young runners took on the 1 mile or 2.6 km courses around St James’s Park, which featured the same iconic finish line on The Mall as the TCS London Marathon. With over 12,900 young runners lacing up their running shoes and hitting the pavement, the excitement and enthusiasm on The Mall from friends, family and staff supporting, was palpable.

Young athletes from Danes Hill School displayed remarkable determination and resilience as they navigated the challenging course through the heart of London. Their grit and perseverance was evident as they pushed themselves to the limit, each step bringing them closer to the finish line. The pupils raised money for the WWF charity, a Year 1 pupil held a cake sale, raising a brilliant £118 and combined with donations from supportive friends and family, the school has raised £716 so far. Two brothers from the Junior School wanted to do their bit for the Red Cross after feeling inspired after an assembly at school on the vital work they do to help people in crisis, they have raised an outstanding £421.

“We are incredibly proud of our pupils who participated in the Mini London Marathon,” said Richard Brown, Head. “Their hard work, dedication, and sportsmanship were on full display on Saturday. It is inspiring to see them embrace the spirit of competition and represent our school with such passion and pride.”

A Danes Hill School pupil commented “I was quite nervous when we were waiting at the start line, but as soon as I heard the horn go and the crowds cheer, I was ready to run my first ever Mini Marathon! I loved running alongside my mum and my best friend, and I cannot wait to return one day to run in the London Marathon’’.

The Mini London Marathon not only provides young athletes with a platform to showcase their talent but also fosters camaraderie and friendship among participants from diverse backgrounds. It is a celebration of youth, athleticism, and the power of sport to unite communities and inspire future generations.
